Vehicle Description 1989 LAND ROVER RANGE ROVER BOBTAIL CONVERTIBLE This truck spent its life in Arizona until 2010.
In 2011 it came to NY, where the previous owner put approximately 4,000 miles on it, until I acquired it in August of 2018, with 35,000 miles on it.
Despite the discrepancy in the odometer (registered in 2002), I still decided to purchase it as its engine looked, sound and felt so strong, with the idea of using it to compete on the trails (which I have been doing since 2002).
However, I only took it to the Robesonia, PA Trails-Fall 2019 event (see videos), sponsored by our Rovers club PA, in which this vehicle ended in a tie for second place.
After that event, though there were no damages to the vehicle, I decided not to risk it anymore, and it turned into a project which now I can't complete due to medical reasons.
It's time for someone else to take over, or simply take it to the trails as it is very strong.
After several modifications and adjustments, and having a 4 lift, it holds stable at 65-75 mph with a moderate ride, since its equipped with A/T tires.
I only used it on weekends and cruising around country farms roads, and for 2 round trips of approx.
200 miles each (one of them to the Robesonia, PA trails).
The previous owner had painted it with textured finished black paint which I decided to keep it as it was so easy to maintain.
At one time I thought of replacing the 4 quarter panels and hood to give it a standard (smooth & shiny) paint job, and I was able to get 3 of the 4 quarter panels and the hood.
However, it was recommended to me not to paint it and leave it the way it is since it gives it a special rough look, so I decided just to paint it over with black matte.
I always wanted to have a convertible RR, and with that being said, one of the last things I did was to have Bob Upholstery take the challenge and fabricate and install the soft top which required a lot of thinking, including the fabrication of an aluminum sub-frame, which can be removed (as an option).
Easy operation and functionality were extremely considered during the design stage, and the removal /installation of the 5 windows is easy.
It's hard to list all the restoration and modification work I've done; however, the outstanding items are listed on the following tracking history (Please note most of the work was performed by ProTires, Newton, NJ and the parts were supplied by Atlantic British-RECEIPTS ARE AVAILABLE UPON REQUEST):
